You can work the arms all in flesh colour yarn for a vest or change to your top colour from R4. for long sleeved or from R9. for short sleeves.

Find the position for the nose by lining up the top of the nose under the 8th round from top. Attach the arms on either side under the 10th round from top. Add hair to the head using the same technique as used for the beard in any colour, length or style you choose.

R8.-R10. ch1, sc in each st, turn (46 for 3 rows)
After R10. do not turn, continue to add an edging to the sides and neck line. ch1, sc x9 up along the edge of rows working around
the edge posts, work along the opposite side of the starting chain – 2sc, sc x34, 2sc, sc x9 down along the other edge of rows, sl st
into first sc of R10., fasten off and weave in ends.

Jacket collar

Leather Jacket free crochet patternKeep the same right side of the edging facing you. At the neckline, count 4 stitches in from the corner (starting with the 2sc at the
end) and join with a sc in the 5th stitch in. sc x29 along the neck line, turn leaving the last 4 stitches unworked, ch1, sc x30, fasten off and weave in ends.

Jacket sleeves

The chain 5 and skipped 5 stitches made in R2. make the armholes.
With the right side of the last worked collar row facing you, join yarn to the middle of the underarm (3rd ch along the opposite side of chain 5)
R1. sc in the same ch you joined in to, sc x2 along the ch sts, sc around the post on the left side of armhole, sc x5 along the top of armhole (previously skipped sts of R2.), sc around the post on the other side, sc x2 along ch sts, sl st into first sc to join (12)
R2.-R8. ch1, sc in each st, sl st into first sc to join (12 for 7 rounds)
Fasten off and weave in ends. Repeat for the other armhole.

Jacket zip and details

Use Grey yarn to add the metal details. Start with the zip detail and front join, this is made using the surface slip stitch technique. With the front of the jacket facing you, overlap the right side on top of the left side, lining up the edge with the start of the collar.
Hook through the bottom corner stitch on the right side and the bottom edge stitch of the left side directly underneath, place the Grey yarn behind and pull up a loop, hook through the next right edge stitch up and through the fabric of the left underneath and pull up a loop and slip stitch through the first loop. Repeat to make a total of 4 surface slip stitches.
Fold back the right side and continue working a line of 5 slip stitches up the fabric of the left side, cut yarn and pull through to fasten off and pull the end back through to the back.

Now work the zip on the right side of jacket, this time the yarn will be held at the front of work and we hook through from the inside of the right flap edge stitches. Turn the jacket upside down and fold the side edge back to work up the edge stitches. Hook through the last previously joined stitch and pull up a loop, hook through the next edge stitch up and slip stitch through the first loop. Repeat all the way up the edge stitches, you will have 3 stitches unworked before the collar starts. Weave in ends.
Fold the collar down and the lapels out. Add a little stitch of Grey yarn at each of the 4 corners of the collar and lapels for stud details. Embroider a few stitches for zipped pockets and zippers on the back of sleeves.

Optional Eagle Appliqué

Eagle free crochet patternOptional detail to decorate the back of your vest or jacket. You will need Brown, Beige and White yarn for the main eagle and a little yellow for the beak and feet detail. Use a hook 2 sizes smaller than you have used for the outfits to make this appliqué firm and small enough to fit on the back of jacket/vest. You could use you own designs instead or just leave them plain.

Using Brown yarn, ch15, from the 2nd ch from hook work the following, sl st, sc, hdc x2, dc x2, [ch2, sl st], [sl st, ch3, dc, ch3, sl st], [sl st, ch2], dc x2, hdc x2, sc, sl st. Fasten off Brown yarn leaving a long tail for attaching later and weave in the starting end.

Keeping the right side facing you, work the Beige along the opposite side of the starting chain, join with a sc in the right corner, sc x6, ch1 and skip the middle ch st, sc x7. Fasten off and weave in the Beige ends.
Add the head and tail. Join white yarn with a sc into the skipped Brown middle ch st going around the Beige ch1 st, 2dc and sc again into the same place, fasten off and weave in ends. Turn to work along the bottom of the centre section, join with a sc to the top of the ch3, sc in the top of the dc, sc in the top of the other ch3. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Using Yellow yarn, embroider a small stitch in the middle of the head for the beak and a couple of stitches for the feet.

Bandana – Biker Gonk free crochet pattern

Bandana free crochet patternFor the bandana I have used thinner yarn and a smaller hook size than the normal “same as Gonk” scale. I have used DK yarn with a 5mm hook to make a bandana for my Chunky weight Gonk. As a scale comparison for other Gonk sizes, reduce the yarn weight by 2 sizes and your hook by 1 size. I have also made a triangle shape instead of a square so its not too bulky. The triangle is worked from the middle out, increasing by working 2sc at each end and in the middle.
Use any colour for your main colour and White for the pattern detail, I will refer to the colours as B for main colour and W for White before the pattern instructions to indicate which colour is used.
When changing colours, start the sc stitch with the working colour but finish with the next colour on the last pull through. Crochet over the dropped colour to carry the yarn along.
Ch1 at the beginning of each row for a turning chain, these will not be counted as stitches. When needing to change colours at the beginning, swap during this ch1.

in the first st, sc x23, [sc, ch2, sc] in the ch2 sp, sc x23, 2sc in the last st, sl st into the first sc to join. Fasten off leaving a tail and
weave in starting end.

Wrap the bandana around the your Gonk’s head to overlap the corners to size and tack in place with the tail end. Place over the Gonk’s head and fold the point down to style.
